In my opinion, Cathedral by Raymond Carver was showing that you never fully appreciate what you have until it’s gone. The husband seemed very oblivious towards the blind man’s (Robert) situation. He didn’t know how to act towards him. After loosening up a bit, Robert asks the narrator to describe the Cathedral on TV. The narrator could not because he never really wanted to pay attention to the little details versus the blind man that lives for the little details in life. Robert then tells the narrator to close his eyes while drawing a picture of the cathedral. The narrator then realizes what it is like to be blind. It made him realize that he was also blind towards many things in his life.
